Abstract

|
The effects of neuroleptic treatments on serum ¥â-endorphin level were examined in 11 newly admitted male schizophrenics who did not take medications for at least 6 months Serum¥â-endorphin levels were assayed before and after neuroleptic
treatment
at
day 1, 7, 28. Serum ¥â-endorphin mean basal levels of schizophrenics did not differ from age-matched normal control subjects. But after treatment, the mean levels of ¥â-endorphin were significantly elevated at 7 & at day 28 There was no
significant
correlati8on between serum ¥â-endorphin levels & BPRS total score. But at day 28, there was significant correlation between serum ¥â-endorphin levels and anxiety-depression subscore of BPRS.
